If you’re a veteran looking to purchase a home, the VA Loan process might seem a little daunting. Here is a short overview of the steps necessary
You first need to request a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility. Once you have that form, it will help you become prequalified by a lender to ensure that their guidelines are met. Once this has been done, you can contact a real-estate agent and begin looking at homes in the price range that you have been pre-approved to purchase.
This is can be a long and complex process. Once you go under contract under a home, either you or your real estate agent will need to submit a copy to the VA Loan lender and have them to order the appraisal. This should take between 7-10 business days to complete. Once this is finished, your VA Loan will then be submitted to underwriting for approval. At this time, you’ll need to order loan documents and have them sent to an escrow company for you to sign and finalize the loan documents. While the process is complex, it’s worth it in the long run.
